Jāņi
Latvian midsummer ritual celebrations trace back centuries and like in northern Europe, has its folk beliefs grounded in pagan traditions with the main themes of the key dates revolving around fertility and rebirth. Plants and floral arrangements play a pivotal role in Jāņi celebrations for their symbolic, therapeutic and decorative means. Thank you to Janis and his friends for allowing me to join in these summer solstice celebrations, culminating in Līgo Day; a true pleasure as an outsider celebrating midsummer for the first time.
